I am a muti-purpose designer doing everything from logos to SharePoint branding projects.
Design
Constant consultation with the client and good process are the secrets to a satisfied clients. Unlike web development, web design is a subject that everyone has an oppinion about. Regardless of who we are and our level of design experience we all know what colors, forms and ideas move us…this is the essence of web design.
Building great looking and functioning sites is what I like best but nothing can strip the cool out of design faster than an unhappy client. Regardless of how “cool” a site looks, it’s the customer who will decide if the site is truly great. From wireframes, to mockups, to storyboards, to finished code, its essential to work with the client at each step in order to ensure everyone is happy with the design.
SilverLight
Interaction design is one of the hotest areas of the web. I have created SilverLight applications for clients to assist in navigation, provide media player functionality, deliver critical brand messages and just for bling. SilverLight adoption across the web is growing daily making it a real player in the online market. If you watch any videos on NBC’s Winter Olympics web site you were using SilverLight.
Front-end Engineering
A web site is only as good as its code. No matter how great the design, if the code supporting it is sloppy and none standards compliant the site will never display or index properly. Pride in craftsmanship is just as much a part of the Front-end Engineer’s job as it is the developer. I take great pride in clean code and well documented sites. My code is fully standards compliant and thoroughly documented for each client in a personalized Style Guide.
SharePoint Technologies
 MS Certified SharePoint Technical Specialist/Architect
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS) is a server product designed to provide an out-of-the-box solution for corporate intranet environments but in reality it’s so much more. When properly and thoughtfully deployed SharePoint can help organizations of all sizes realize significant gains in productivity.
At its core, SharePoint is a system for providing collaborative workspaces to employees. With tools for document sharing, workflow, publishing, reporting and knowledge management, SharePoint takes the corporate intranet beyond mere content management and publishing. At its best, SharePoint provides a decentralized workspace that brings together employees whether located in adjacent cubes or separate continents.
My specialty is helping companies make sense of this fantastic but complex tool, taking full advantage of all the productivity and business intelligence capabilites it has to offer.
SharePoint Branding for MOSS and 2010
It doesn’t take long before clients start asking about the “look” of SharePoint. “How do we make it look less like SharePoint?” It’s a great question.
While SharePoint is quite functional it’s not exactly exciting to look at. SharePoint branding is a skill that I have perfected over the years and a service I have provided to countless organizations. Whether a public facing web site or a company-wide intranet environment, my skills have been honed by years of experience allowing me to deploy branded, well designed SharePoint sites right the first time. Companies such as United Health Group and Pacific Gas and Electric have trusted me with their brands and we have turned out great projects together
User Experience
I love usability and have done a lot of it. I have developed a few of my own techniques to help in the assessment and user interaction design process. Driving toward requirements and good user experience practices is my focus and in many cases my work is done in the context of large and complicated SharePoint deployments.
Public Speaking, Seminars and Workshops
I have presented at SharePoint camps and user groups. I also conduct private mentoring sessions and have even done workshops for designers and design agencies such as Little and Company  and Padilla Spear and Beardsley on SharePoint branding techniques and best practices. I am current teaching a course in web site planning and promotion.
